The Democratic Party of Kosovo (DPK) has chosen the mayor of South Mitrovica, Bedri Hamza, as its candidate for prime minister. Kosovar voters were offered the “Kosovo Can Do Better” plan, which they say represents a transformative agenda that addresses the country’s key challenges and needs to ensure a better life for all citizens. Transforming the country through strategic investments in infrastructure, fostering private capital, creating new jobs, and ensuring energy stability are pillars for sustainable economic development.
PDK aims to ease the tax burden, increase domestic production, promote exports, and create a favorable environment for investment.
"We will launch a financial support program that offers subsidies and grants of up to 30% of business investments that employ young people. We will establish the Kosovo Stock Exchange to improve the financing opportunities for businesses that open new jobs," said Bedri Hamza, PDK's candidate for prime minister.
PDK promises that under their leadership, young people will find the necessary perspective for their development, families will find state support at every step, and the state will guarantee security and ideal conditions for all those who aim for a happy life.
"In the first months of my government, I will increase salaries by 50%, in addition to salaries by 70%, I will increase basic pensions, I will increase contributory pensions, which will be scaled according to years of work. We will increase benefits for the families of martyrs, for war invalids and veterans of the Kosovo Liberation Army by 50%," Hamza said, reports A2 CNN.
By equipping the education system with the necessary resources and support, both for teachers and students, PDK promises that Kosovo will be positioned as an example of educational transformation in the region.
"From the current education system for older children, we will move to a full-day school system, offering extracurricular activities and comprehensive support for all students throughout the day. Schools in Kosovo are safer and children are healthier," he stressed.
Hamza promises to create a healthcare system that provides accessible and modern care to all citizens, by digitizing the system, improving infrastructure, and strengthening regional hospitals.
"We will invest maximally in building a modern health system, we will make health insurance functional for all citizens, and we will provide free medicines for cancer patients and those with chronic diseases," promises Hamza.
In infrastructure, PDK says it will complete all projects that have been launched and take care of the development of other capacities, while importance will also be given to the green agenda.
In foreign policy, Hamza promises more proactive diplomacy in relation to countries that have not yet recognized independence, including countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, while the strategic goal is to achieve that 2/3 of the United Nations member states recognize Kosovo during the four-year mandate. In the dialogue with Serbia, PDK says that they will be committed to respecting and implementing the obligations arising from the signed agreements. Within the first three months of government, a complete restructuring of the dialogue process is promised.
This includes the democratization and institutionalization of Kosovo's representation, the adoption of a clear platform in the Kosovo Assembly, and the creation of an inclusive representative structure.
PDK promises to work so that by 2026, Kosovo and Serbia reach a comprehensive and legally binding agreement, which will include mutual recognition of statehood.
"Under my government, Kosovo will repair and strengthen relations with European Union countries and the United States of America, international sanctions will be lifted from our country and we will deepen strategic cooperation, promote regional stability and move quickly in the Euro-Atlantic integration process," declares the PDK leader.
On security challenges, the Democratic Party pledges to prioritize diplomatic efforts to resolve border disputes, ensuring strong international support for Kosovo's sovereignty.
However, the digitalization of the entire national security and defense sector is also promised, integrating Artificial Intelligence. To protect the state, PDK promises to invest in the modernization of military infrastructure, increasing and modernizing the capacities of the defense forces, including the establishment of the national guard with all the foreseen structures and ensuring their readiness.
