Serbia is trying to interfere in the parliamentary elections in Kosovo to be held on February 9. This was stated at the roundtable organized by the Institute for Hybrid Warfare Studies "Octopus" on the topic "Foreign interference in elections and its impact on national security and democracy."

Serbia's hybrid war against Kosovo, which includes combined activities that undermine the democratic order, was defined as political, economic interference, but also a security violation.

The Serbian List, which official Belgrade is contributing to win all ten reserved seats in the Kosovo Assembly, was described as a legally disguised umbrella for hybrid activities.

“With the suppression of democracy in the Serbian community and the deceptive narratives that deepen ethnic divisions in Kosovo, Serbia continues to be a serious threat to national security. Despite the historical and social factors that prevent direct Russian intervention, Kosovo cannot achieve normalization with Serbia until the Serbian List is the political entity that represents the Serbs of Kosovo,” said Octopus director Arben Fetoshi.

Kosovo Serb citizens were asked to be careful in the February 9 elections so as not to be disappointed and further aggravate their situation.

“The Serbian List is an organization that functions to intimidate citizens and which propagates Serbian politics and the creation of Vučić’s ‘Serbian world’. The idea is to create the geopolitical interest of Belgrade through the Serbian List and expand Serbia's influence in Kosovo and destabilize the constitutional order of Kosovo”, added Serbian journalist Radomir Dimic.

Finnish Ambassador to Kosovo, Matti Nissinen, said Kosovo can learn from his country's experiences in dealing with hybrid warfare.

“In Kosovo, hybrid warfare manifests itself through disinformation campaigns, false narratives that aim to ethnic divisions and undermine trust in the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo, narratives that oppose Kosovo's independence. Critical infrastructure can also be compromised, for example, as was the recent attack in Zubin Potok, which demonstrates the need for improved protection measures”, declared Finnish Ambassador Matti Nissinen.

The roundtable also highlighted the spread of fake news that aims to present a completely different picture of Kosovo Serbs, mainly those in the north, which is linked to ethnic cleansing campaigns. (A2 Televizion)
