Vetëvendosje and other parties in its coalition have lost political ground. This is reported by the international news agency Reuters, citing two private polls showing that Albin Kurti's political strength has fallen to 40% of preferences, compared to the 50.2% of votes he received in the 2021 elections.

However, Kosovo's Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, from the Guxo List in coalition with Vetëvendosje, claims that the numbers are increasing: "The polls we read show that Prime Minister Kurti's popularity during the four years of his mandate is unbroken and remains very, very high. Support is probably greater for the policies implemented in the northern municipalities of our country."

Ms. Gërvalla emphasizes to Reuters that Sunday's result will show the real assessment of citizens for Kurti's governance: "The election result will show that people have seen good crisis management, have seen progress in the economy and have been able, as we say in Kosovo, to feel the hand of the state and government in improving life."

The opposition thinks differently and accuses the Kurti government of not doing anything good for the citizens and the country. Vlora Çitaku, PDK candidate for MP, said: “In the last four years, unfortunately, we have seen zero progress in the most important areas that affect the daily lives of citizens in Kosovo. Society is polarized and our relations with key allies have suffered a major shock. There have been hundreds of millions of euros that have been promised for Kosovo in various sectors that have not been spent. But again, at the end of the day, it is not just about those millions that we lost. What we have lost is credibility as a partner.”

The Serb community says it expects nothing from these elections. Marko Milenkovic, from the Social Initiative, emphasizes: “My hopes are not high. I expect some changes, at least that’s what I hope, but it can’t go any worse, because we are really in a very bad situation. I hope that these elections will bring change. We will have the return of Serbs to some of the institutions. But it is essential to have political will, especially from Pristina and Belgrade, but also political power from the European Union and the international community.”

Kosovo is holding parliamentary elections this Sunday. 27 political parties are participating. 1 million 970 thousand 944 voters within Kosovo are eligible to vote, while 104 thousand 924 citizens in the diaspora have registered to exercise their right to vote. (A2 Televizion)
