The echoes of the statements of the US envoy for special missions, Richard Grenell, towards Prime Minister Albin Kurti continue to be felt in Kosovo.
Analysts see them as unhealthy for relations between the US and Kosovo. University professor Rrahman Paçarizi tells Kosova Press that Grenell reacted to Kurti after the latter gave himself the right to use relations with the US to win the votes of citizens in the February 9 elections.
According to him, it is not very common for American officials to react during campaign times, but it has been proven that officials from the Trump administration are quite active and energetic.
"It is not interference in the electoral process, since the statement of the head of special missions to the US, Mr. Richard Grenell, was a reaction to a statement by Kurti during the election campaign. If someone in Kosovo gives himself the right to use relations with the US, whatever political force it is, to win people's votes, then the reaction from the other side is also legitimate. If Kurti says that we have the best relations with America than any government so far, then the American side will react. It is not entirely common to react during campaigns, but Mr. Grenell has proven several times that he is a very energetic and active person. There is no room for hatred. Do I think these ping-pong games are healthy? They are not healthy, since the citizens of Kosovo should vote and believe that citizens vote for programs and are not influenced by the statements of Kurti or anyone else. But, unfortunately, these can create confusion," said Paçarizi, reports A2.
On the other hand, political scientist Melazim Koci tells Kosova Press that despite the harshness of Grenell's statements towards Kurti, he does not believe there will be any major shake-up in relations between Kosovo and the US.
For such a thing, he says that the results of the February 9 elections should be awaited, but, according to him, American politics are not done on a personal basis and in the logic of revenge: "I do not believe in the claims or theses that American politics are done on a personal basis. American politics are not even based on Trump's personality... In the United States of America, there is a Constitution and there is a so-called 'DeepState' not as a conspiracy, but as a combination of agencies that draft high international policies and which primarily have the vital national interest. I believe that the continuity of Kosovo-US relations will continue since it is also based on the interest of the US and certainly of Kosovo. I do not expect a major tremor in the sense that now we will have revenge of someone against someone. I do not believe in such a logic in US foreign policy."
Grenell said days ago that the United States needs reliable partners in the Balkans, while the government of Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, according to him, is not one of them. (A2 Televizion)
