In Shkodra, the number of patients diagnosed with tuberculosis is increasing year after year. The pulmonologist tells A2 CNN about the cases diagnosed with tuberculosis and the age groups affected, including young people.

"In Shkodra, the situation in recent years, after Covid, 15-20 new cases are diagnosed per year due to the use of corticotherapy. We saw an increase in young patients who come to us in the initial phase. With pulmonary involvement. There are patients of advanced age with more severe forms of tuberculosis. Cases are frequent in young people," Genta Smaja, a pulmonologist, told A2 CNN.

Although there is still a stigma among the population that the disease brings serious consequences, the pulmonologist explains that tuberculosis is completely treatable, as long as it is caught in time.

"Tuberculosis is curable, but it is important to be followed up regularly and closely with a pulmonologist and treated according to internationally defined schemes. It is stigmatized, but it is treatable and curable ," Dr. Smaja told A2 CNN.

According to data, nationally in Albania, around 250 people are diagnosed with tuberculosis during a year, while globally this figure reaches up to 11 million cases per year. (A2 Televizion)
