The Food and Veterinary Agency has today received the results of laboratory analyzes of suspected pesticide residues above the permitted level (MRL) in mandarin products originating from Albania and others. The results have confirmed that the products from the consignments / contingents in question meet international food safety standards and are safe for consumption. Representative samples were taken from six consignments/contingents of different origin, where four of them are from Albania. The values obtained from the laboratory tests for the suspected samples, always referring to the limits defined by the European Union regulation No. 396/2005 on the maximum levels of pesticide residues in food and animal feed of plant and animal origin, respectively regulations/amendments (EU) No. 2020/1085 for maximum residue levels for Chlorpyrifos and chlorpyrifos-methyl, and amendment/regulation (EU) 2023/1029, for maximum residue levels for phosmet. The laboratory testing method is confirmatory (EN 15662:2018). The tested loads meet the legal criteria of food safety, therefore they will be released for market circulation and consumption.
Feeling the legal responsibility according to the official mandate, we acted immediately after raising doubts about the safety of the Mandarin product even though the notifications from RASFF were not for the products that were sent in one form or another to the Kosovo market. Now, with the release of laboratory results, it has been confirmed that tangerines are safe for consumption. We will continue with controls on import cargo according to the risk assessment, including additional control measures at all inspection stages, including sampling and laboratory testing. Every product aimed at the market of our country is always inspected to ensure compliance with legal food safety criteria.
