The Special Court confirmed the visit of former President Hashim Thaçi to Kosovo, to visit his father's grave and to meet his immediate family.
“During the visit, the accused will continue to be held in custody and under the custody of the Specialist Chambers,” the court said in a public statement on Friday, March 21.
The court said the visit was made possible for “compelling humanitarian reasons.” Under strict security measures, Thaçi was brought from The Hague to Kosovo five days after his father’s death and three days after the funeral, KosovaPress reports.
"I came to your grave last, father," wrote former President Hashim Thaçi, in the wreath he laid on Friday on his father's grave in Burojë, Skenderaj.
He arrived in his village at around 11:00 on March 21, with permission from the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague – known as the Special Court, KosovaPress writes.
Thaçi is facing a lengthy trial on charges of alleged war crimes. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts of the indictment. (A2 Televizion)
