The Special Appeal today reviews Ilir Meta's appeal against the First Instance decision of June 26, which continued the measure of "prison arrest" against the former president.
Before the start of the session, in a brief statement to the media, the former president's lawyer, Kujtim Cakrani, said: "He will definitely be released, the Ayatollah said it today, we will release him."
A few days ago, the president of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court against the Supreme Court's decision that left him in prison.
In the request to the Constitutional Court, Meta states that the decisions of the three courts - the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Court of First Instance - regarding his imprisonment are unconstitutional, as they violate the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights, emphasizing that he is being held in a cell without charge.
