"You will end up slaves!" British government discourages Albanian

The British government has launched a warning campaign to discourage Albanians from migrating illegally to the United Kingdom. The campaign includes digital advertisements that will be broadcast over the next month in Albania, aiming to raise awareness of the dangers and exploitation that illegal people trafficking brings, writes A2 CNN.

One of the ads tells the story of a young Albanian man who, after being deceived by promises of a well-paid job, ended up being exploited as a “slave.” Another tells the story of an immigrant who says: “They told me I would have to work to pay off my travel debt, but they didn’t tell me for how long or how much I would be paid.”

The ads close with the message: "Trying to enter the United Kingdom illegally could cost you everything," urging citizens to obtain accurate information about illegal migration and its consequences.

According to the British government, the campaign aims to combat “myths and misinformation” that smugglers use to lure migrants. In 2022, a record 12,000 Albanians crossed the English Channel in small boats, but their numbers have fallen significantly after the rapid return agreement between the two countries.

Albanian criminal gangs are using social media platforms like TikTok to recruit workers to cannabis farms in the UK. To cope with the labour shortage, these groups are offering percentages of profits from street drug sales instead of fixed salaries.

"This campaign aims to disrupt the business model of these criminal groups and protect people from fraud and exploitation," said Martin Hewitt, head of the UK Border Security Command. (A2 Televizion)
