The former Director General of the State Police, Gledis Nano, has won the legal battle with the Albanian government, after the Administrative Court of Appeal upheld the First Instance decision, declaring his dismissal from office illegal.
The decision was made by a panel of judges composed of Ardian Dvorani, Gentian Hamiti and Sokol Ibi, who rejected the appeal of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Interior, which had requested the annulment of the decision that found Nano in favor.
Based on this final decision, the Albanian state is obliged to pay Gledis Nano compensation of 60 monthly salaries, which coincides with the five-year term of his interrupted mandate, in a total value of around 100 thousand euros.
Nano was dismissed from office on August 31, 2022, at the proposal of former Interior Minister Bledi Çuçi, while Prime Minister Edi Rama had publicly stated that he had requested his resignation. The official reason for his dismissal was " failure to achieve objectives ."
The Court of Appeals' decision was issued on June 26, 2025, and it is not yet known whether the government will file an appeal with the Supreme Court within the 30-day deadline.
Meanwhile, Gledis Nano is in the running for the new head of the National Bureau of Investigation, having passed the first phase of evaluation by the SPAK Special Commission. (A2 Televizion)
