The Ministry of Interior and the state-owned company IdentiTek have introduced a series of important innovations in the biometric document service, significantly modernizing and improving the way citizens are provided with passports and identity cards.
The main innovation is the introduction of the electronic coupon function, which eliminates the need to physically go to postal counters to purchase coupons for applying documents. Citizens can now make payments online through the official IdentiTek platform, benefiting from a faster and easier process.
The Minister of Interior, Ervin Hoxha, and the administrator of IdentiTek, Freskida Halilaj, visited one of the application offices to see the functioning of the new system up close. Hoxha emphasized that citizens can now apply online for the voucher and then proceed with the procedures for the production of the identity card. He added that through an additional payment, citizens can be provided with an identity card within one to three working days, eliminating delays and responding to the requests of citizens living abroad.
Meanwhile, Halilaj announced that Albania is now the 99th member country of the Public Key Directorate (PKD) within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
This inclusion significantly increases the security of Albanian passports and improves their image in the international arena. Passports produced by IdentiTek are equipped with advanced security elements and are automatically verified for their authenticity.
"This new system will be a great help to all citizens, especially those who live outside Albania and who do not have time to wait two weeks to renew their documents," said Halilaj.
These changes are part of a broader reform to digitize state services and increase efficiency, bringing Albania closer to the standards of European Union countries in the field of identity documents. (A2 Televizion)
