The Director of the Regional Directorate of the National Food Authority for the Tirana region, Fation Pasholli, has resigned. The request to be relieved of this position was submitted on April 4, a few days after the publication of the cases of salmonella-tainted meat from Brazil and pesticides-tainted strawberries from Greece. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has ordered the termination of work with Pasholli on Monday, April 7.
"I left for personal reasons and because the truth is not what is being reflected. It is true that the amount of meat should not have been released to the market. I have run an institution with 40 employees for 5 municipalities," Fation Pasholli told A2CNN.
While considering it as "taking moral and not legal responsibility," the former director of the National Food Authority of Tirana also points out the link that did not function properly in allowing the introduction of salmonella-infected chickens from Brazil into the market.
"The moment a sample for salmonella is taken by the Food Safety and Veterinary Institute, the importing entity should have been notified within 3-4 days at the most and not a single kilogram of meat would have been released on the market. The reasons why this quantity was not banned, but went on sale, remain to be investigated," Fation Pasholli told A2CNN.
Alketa Hoxha has been proposed to replace Fation Pasholli. The latter has held the position of legal director at the General AKU. A2CNN also learns that Olsi Komici, who held the position of National Food Authority since January 29, was dismissed from this position by decision of the Council of Ministers three weeks ago. Manush Kullolli has been appointed to replace Komici.
