All Albanians who want to cross to Greece can travel from the Kapshtica point, as the other 3 customs points, Kakavija, Qafë Botës and Tre Urave in Përmet, are blocked due to the strike of the Greek customs union.
A2 CNN journalist Rigels Malile, stationed at the Kapshtica border crossing in the south of the country, reported that the strike began at 8:00 a.m. Greek time and will continue until midnight. According to him, so far there have been no problems, but there have been sporadic returns of people who were not informed about the strike. Among the returnees were also Greek citizens and foreign tourists.
"The strike of Greek customs officers in Kakavija, Qafë Botë and Tre uras in Përmet has started since 7 am today our time and the whole day will be paralyzed until 23:00. Up to now, no problems have been noted in terms of queues or gatherings, although there have been sporadic returns of people who were not informed about this strike and were forced to turn back. There have been foreign tourists who wanted to cross towards Greece, but were not allowed by the Albanian authorities. In Kakavija there have been several cases where Greek citizens wanted to cross, but were not allowed and like everyone else they will have to wait until the next day", reported the A2 CNN journalist.
Meanwhile, traffic continues normally at the Kapshtica border crossing. A2 CNN journalist Artin Halili reported that all Albanians who want to cross into Greece can travel through the Kapshtica crossing.
"Kapshtica has been operating normally. Kapshtica is open today and it seems that the unions have decided not to paralyze movement with Albania," said the A2 CNN journalist.
This announced strike by Greek unions comes on the 2nd anniversary of the tragedy in Greece, where two trains collided in Tempi, Larisa, Greece on February 28, 2023, and as a result of the demands of customs unions. In the tragic accident, 57 people lost their lives, including 6 Albanians.
The public system in Greece is paralyzed today, with planes and trains not allowed to continue operating, and there is no announcement whether the protest will continue or be postponed. (A2 Televizion)
