Prime Minister Edi Rama shared a video this morning of the Himara Castle, which dates back to the fourth century BC. The video states that it was built by the Illyrian tribe of Kaoni and carries a lot of history from Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman conquests.
"Since the fourth century BC, Himara Castle has stood proudly above the Albanian Riviera. These walls hold a lot of history and have stood unbroken for more than two thousand years. Built by ancient kaons, it was a powerful fortress. Over the centuries, it has seen Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman invasions, but it has always stood proud. The narrow streets and churches convey the history of thousands of years. Today, Himara Castle is an interesting destination for many visitors who, in addition to maritime tourism, also want to explore cultural tourism. Visit Himara Castle, the jewel of the Albanian Riviera!" the video says, writes A2 CNN.
The head of the Albanian government also calls on followers to visit the Himara Castle this summer.
"Good morning and inviting you to get to know and visit the Himara Castle this summer, I wish you a good day," Rama writes.
From the top of the castle, visitors can enjoy views of the city of Himara, its beaches, and the surrounding mountains.
