"Greetings from Gaza. We are settled in a tent, as our home is in a very dangerous place," begins the story in Albanian, Palestinian Abdullah Jabir, who, together with his family, wife and son, live in what is today considered "hell on earth."
"I have lived in Albania since 1994. I am married to Albina, my beloved daughter-in-law from Korça. I have my son Jakub, while we lost our other son to this war, Ibrahim, while the eldest son, Ahmed, is in Tirana," he says, as he reveals that Ahmed was also married six months ago.
Abdullah reveals in an exclusive interview with Andrea Dangli for "Off the Record" why he chose to live here, despite losing a son. "We are Palestinians, my parents are here. We have a house here in Gaza and life goes on. The war happened and the Albanian embassy in Egypt helped us a lot. I am happy for my daughter-in-law with Ibrahim and Jakub to leave, because I can't leave my mother and sister with the whole family, who are here, but still the daughter-in-law said, Abdullah, I will never leave you. We are settled in Gaza."
He doesn't like to talk much about what the Israeli army is doing in Gaza. "You see it for yourself," he says. As he speaks, the Israeli army's bombing can be heard in the background. "They are Israeli bombs on the people of Gaza. But I won't talk about that, you see it for yourself. I will talk about the difficulties of the people of Gaza. 2.2 million people today can't find bread. We live sometimes with bread, sometimes without bread. But even this, for God's sake, is not a problem. We can't find water, it takes almost an hour to fill the canister. Life is terrible. We walk almost half an hour to find a point to charge the phone we are filming," writes A2 CNN.
Despite what his family is going through, Abdullah says that this war has brought family members closer together. "It's a really difficult time, but it has made the family ironclad. Love, care for each other."
Jabir says that in the Gaza area where he lives, Palestinians want to learn Albanian and have gained special respect for Albania. "Albina represents Albania inside Gaza. In every place she goes and they find out that she is Albanian and she has the opportunity to leave this embarrassment and she doesn't leave, because she has the opportunity to stay close to her husband and family, you don't know what respect they have. How many people love Albania in Gaza, from Albina. They have started learning Albanian, for God's sake, from Albina. Jakub, who wears a T-shirt with the Albanian flag and goes out for fun, says I am an Albanian Palestinian," he says. (A2 Televizion)
