Three fires, one of which in Finiq, which had been active for several days, have been isolated after air intervention by the Albanian and Greek Air Forces. To extinguish the fire in a mountain massif in the territory of the Finiq municipality, in the Shtugar area, Albania has also activated the European Civil Protection Mechanism.
With the involvement of the Albanian Air Force and two firefighting aircraft from Greece, it was possible to bring the flames under control. This operation was closely coordinated between the National Civil Emergency Operations Center (AKMC) and the Greek Civil Protection Agency, ensuring a rapid and efficient intervention.
Even in Poliçan, aerial intervention was crucial in isolating a fire that threatened forested areas inaccessible by land.
Meanwhile, in Elbasan, Fire Protection structures, together with the Armed Forces and local authorities, managed to isolate another fire, avoiding major environmental and material damage.
The Ministry of Defense has emphasized that, due to the dry conditions and high temperatures that are affecting the entire Mediterranean region, as warned by the official Copernicus EMS service map, there is a high risk of wildfires breaking out in the country.
Authorities appeal to all citizens to exercise increased caution, not to light fires in nature, and to immediately notify authorities in case of danger.
