During the efforts to save some elderly people from a fire in the village of Vergo in Delvina, the chief of the police station of this city, Commissioner Agim Troci, was injured. The latter suffered multiple burns and was taken to the burn unit at the QSUT. This evening he was visited by the director of the Police, Ilir Proda, who praised his courageous and humane act and wished him a speedy recovery.
"Chief of the Police Station Agim Troci is the best example of the dedication and sacrifice that a State Police officer embodies. He acted with courage and a high sense of responsibility, to protect the lives of others," Proda said at the hospital.
He also praised the other employees of the Delvina Police Station who today risked their lives to save many residents, mostly elderly, from the flames in the villages of Delvina, as a result of a large fire favored by the wind, which has engulfed many residential areas.
"I want to thank everyone, including Deputy Commissioner Eridion, who suffered asphyxiation and is receiving medical assistance at the Delvina Hospital, as well as all the employees of the Delvina Police Station who, under the leadership of Commissioner Troci, with dedication and courage, supported by the services of the Saranda Police Station, have saved dozens of lives of citizens, making it possible to evacuate them from their homes to outside the danger zone. Several other employees have also suffered. This act is an inspiring example of the dedication and humanity of the officers on duty."
In the area affected by the fire, in the villages of Senicë, Vergo and Kopacëz, the intensive intervention of the Fire Department, Civil Emergency, Police and Army services continues, to neutralize the fires and guarantee the safety of the residents.
The State Police appeals for increased caution from citizens, especially when moving in areas with dense vegetation and those exposed to fires. Any careless action, such as lighting a fire in nature, throwing cigarettes or burning waste, can bring serious consequences for life and the environment.
