Two young Albanian men have been sentenced to a total of 18 years in prison by British justice after being accused of raping a girl in her home.
At trial, prosecutors said the victim met 22-year-old Redjon Cenaj at a nightclub in Leicester in October 2023 and was then joined by 20-year-old Mariglen Ferataj.
CCTV footage showed that the girl was not in a good state after consuming alcohol and Ferataj picked her up and put her in a taxi, which took them to the girl's apartment, where the two boys then allegedly sexually abused her.
At Leicester Crown Court on Friday, the two boys from Albania were sentenced to nine years in prison each.
CCTV footage showed Cenaj and Ferataj holding the girl in a suspicious manner. A statement taken from the taxi driver also confirmed that the victim was not alert to what was happening, officers said.
During his interview, Ferataj said that the sexual relationship between them was consensual, while Cenaj denied having had sex with the girl who denounced him.
Last month at Leicester Crown Court, Cenaj was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault with penetration, while Ferataj was found guilty of four counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault with penetration.
" Despite seeing CCTV footage from that night, which showed the victim's behaviour and the fact that there was no way she would have been able to admit anything, the suspects continued to suggest that it was all consensual. The victim has shown incredible courage throughout the investigation and legal proceedings – this was not easy for her. The incident has had a detrimental impact on her mental health and her life in general ," the judge in the case said. (A2 Televizion)
