As if last year, with its extreme temperatures and difficult conditions for beekeepers, wasn't enough, they are now facing significant losses of bee colonies as a result of American foulbrood, a disease that is mass-exterminating bees.
But, while the disease is literally wreaking havoc among bee colonies, local veterinary offices have not given any warning, much less guidance on how beekeepers should act in order to minimize losses, writes A2.
At the Directorate of Agriculture in the Municipality of Fier, the head of the office claimed off camera that there is information from the media about bees affected by the American bee disease, but he claimed that out of approximately 1,600 beekeepers, none of them have reported being affected by this disease.
