This is how the president of the European Commission started her speech during a conference in Brussels within the framework of the EU-Western Balkans summit.
Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the long-held position of the EC, that integration will be a merit-based process for all aspiring countries to join the Union.
Meanwhile, focusing on Kosovo and Serbia, the head of the EC emphasized that the future of integration between the two neighbors remains entirely in their hands, sticking to the commitments that both sides have made in the dialogue process that is mediated by the EU.
"They have taken important steps this year with the Ohrid agreement, which must now be implemented and I welcome the reduction of tensions in the North of Kosovo, more specifically with the issue of license plates and electricity and preparations for early elections," added Ursula von der Leyen.
