In the Theth area, the IKMT's action to demolish buildings built without permits has entered its sixth day, as has the response of residents with protests and clashes with the police.
Resident and entrepreneur Edmir Grela spoke about the situation created in this tourist area on "Weekend Diary" with Erion Dushi, on A2 CNN.
"The situation does not look very good. IKMT and the state police continued with the demolitions again. This was not expected by the state at the height of the season by tourists and residents of Theth. No, I was not affected, but our cousins, our relatives who returned to build and open their doors to welcome tourists in Theth were affected, as there was a very large growth in Theth these last two years," said Grela.
The consequences of the IKMT action, according to Grela, have been felt as there have been cancellations of reservations and tourists leaving in fear. The entrepreneur also said that they are unclear about what awaits them in the future, no longer having the courage to invest in improving the infrastructure in their service facilities.
"We had a lot of requests, even personally we were trying to grow the business but we are now blocked, and we no longer dare to work. Even those that we had started to build to welcome foreigners, half have collapsed. About 50 to 100 objects have collapsed. It is not known how long it will last, nor do we know who will be caught, I say God willing, they will not come to me. The road is passable but there are police. Naturally, tourists are scared, they have left. They ask if we can come, are there any problems. They ask what is happening... Reservations have been canceled. There is no answer or information. They do not even say wait, we do not know anything", explained Grela.
He further emphasized that all entrepreneurs in the Theth area have paid taxes and obligations to the state regularly.
"Everyone pays, everyone has taxes, grandchildren, pays for water and electricity. One day the state tells you to build and then comes back and destroys it. But why stop building when it's unfair?"
Asked if he is aware of any strategic investments in the area after the IKMT action, given that the opposition claims that an Austrian investor has expressed interest in Theth, Grela responded by saying: "No, so far I have not heard anything. It is not that the lands are occupied, they have been inherited from generation to generation." (A2 Televizion)
