Death of 3-year-old in Shkodra, hospital director and head of pediatrics speak

The death of a 3-year-old boy from the village of Mjeda i Vau i Dejës in Shkodra hospital has shocked public opinion. According to hospital sources for A2 CNN, doctors have ruled out meningitis and suspected poisoning, while his 6-year-old sister is in intensive care at the Pediatrics of the Tirana University Hospital with the same symptoms and in critical condition.

For this case, A2 CNN spoke with the director of the Shkodra hospital, Senad Halluni, who explained step by step the situation with the minor and his sister.

"The 3-year-old presented on February 21st and after receiving treatment, he was recommended to be hospitalized, but his father decided to take him with him. Then he came back the next day but was in a very serious health condition with almost no signs of life. 5 resuscitators and other doctors tried to keep him alive, but it was impossible. 45 minutes later he passed away. 30 minutes after him, his 7-year-old sister came with vomiting and the pediatric doctors decided to transport her to Tirana and she was transported to the QSUT in the intensive care unit. Then the relevant authorities were notified to perform an autopsy. The fact that the three-year-old's sister also has the same symptoms has engaged doctors and toxicologists to find the cause of this event. Whether it is poisoning or a seasonal virus will be determined by the diagnosis and final analysis," the director of the Shkodra hospital told A2 CNN.

The head of pediatrics in Shkodra, Greta Naraçi, also explained the incident and stated that the 3-year-old child was in a very serious condition. According to her, the same was true of her sister, for whom it was decided to be sent to the QSUT.

"When the child arrived, she was in cardiac shock, very severe cardiac insufficiency, and it was too late for us to provide the necessary assistance. It was a difficult situation and we tried to put her in intensive care, but time was very short and did not leave us time for a diagnosis. To our knowledge, the parents told us that she had not consumed anything and we were unable to determine what it was. It was difficult to even take her blood. I am very emotionally burdened. The arrival of the second child with the grandparents and not with the parents because they signed and left thinking that it was a virus, and then when the second child arrived, we all decided together that the girl should be sent to Tirana. The girl is in serious condition in Tirana and we have no confirmation so far as to what the cause is."

Meanwhile, Director Halluni claims that the minors' mother is pregnant and the doctor has asked her to stay in the hospital under the care of doctors, but according to him, she has not yet shown up.

"The mother is in the final stages of pregnancy and the doctor has suggested that she stay in the hospital and be under the care of the doctors. She has begged him to come, but so far he has not come."
