Elections, EU summit and "Giro d'Italia", Police on full alert!

The May 11 elections, the EU leaders' summit and the "Giro d'Italia" were the focus of the meeting of the General Director of the State Police, Ilir Proda, with the directors of local Police directorates, directors of border and migration directorates and directors of departments. In the statement distributed to the media, it is announced that Proda has given instructions to improve the quality of Police services for order and security in the country during the conclusion of the electoral campaign, the voting process and until the end of this process.

"Implement the law and obligations arising from the Electoral Code, while remaining equidistant from political entities, as before. React in a timely and professional manner, do not neglect any conflict, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, dynamically follow up on any concerns addressed by citizens or representatives of political entities and treat them legally, in cooperation with the respective Prosecutor's Offices. Work with police intelligence to prevent and crack down on electoral crimes. Police structures should continue intensive monitoring of social networks, to identify legal violations that violate the electoral process and identify responsible citizens. Order services that, regardless of the circumstances or situations they may face, never forget that they are police officers and the only protective weapon they have - the law, to implement it with coolness, professionalism and beyond any prejudice. Take measures so that Police officers, regardless of service planning, are given the opportunity to vote like any citizen of this the country," Proda declared.

He has asked the directors to remain in charge of the services, as "the State Police will switch to reinforced services, to successfully cope with the process before, during and after the closing of the vote, the "Giro d'Italia" activity and the European Political Community Summit to be held on May 16, in Tirana."

"In parallel with these measures, measures should be taken at border crossing points to facilitate the increased movement of vehicles and citizens in the coming days. Also, checks should be increased on the green border and on vehicles that will cross the border, in order to prevent and combat border crimes. Finally, Tirana, Elbasan, Durrës and Vlora should coordinate actions with the Department of Order and Security, the Directorate of Road Police, the Security Academy and the Municipal Police, in order for the measures taken to be implemented correctly on the ground, to enable the international activity "Giro d'Italia", with a great impact on the country, to take place in safe conditions with regard to the duties of the Police, despite the commitment and dedication that the Police has for the smooth running of the entire electoral process, in accordance with the law and the Electoral Code."
