Livestock is in a deep crisis. Today in Albania there are fewer livestock and fewer farmers interested in raising them.
According to the data, the number of livestock has decreased by over 11% in each category, such as cattle, goats, sheep. The decline in the rural population and the lack of productivity of farms, after the removal of government subsidies, has led to a decrease in the number of livestock.
Fewer livestock in the countryside has resulted in less meat and by-products on the market.
Today, the needs of Albanian consumers are being met with imported meat. During 2024, 84 million euros of meat were imported, an increase of 7 million euros or 9.1% compared to the previous year.
But where is the imported meat we consume today coming from?
It turns out that more than 1/3 of the meat during the year that just ended came from Brazil. It is followed by Greece, the United States of America, Italy and Paraguay.
