The Customs Administration collected 23.2 billion lek in revenue to the budget during July, which represents an increase of 9.1% compared to July last year.
Referring to official data from the General Directorate of Customs, the growth was driven particularly by the higher volume of imports of excise goods, where an increase in the customs-cleared volume of fuel, cigarettes, coffee and beer is observed, writes A2 CNN.
Specifically, during this month, 5,200 tons more fuel, 58 tons more cigarettes, 60 tons more coffee and 200 tons more beer were imported compared to the same month in 2024.
In the January-July period of this year, revenue collected by customs reached 137 billion lek, exceeding forecasts and marking an increase of 4.3%, compared to the same period last year.
Although the euro and dollar exchange rate has had a negative impact, causing a decrease of 5 billion lek, the Administration estimates that, under unchanged exchange rate conditions, revenues would have reached the value of 142 billion lek.
This would represent an achievement of about 4% above plan and an increase of 8.2% compared to 2024.
The Administration's focus during these seven months has been precisely on excise goods, which have shown a significant increase compared to the previous year. Fuel imports have increased by 50,000 tons, cigarettes by 154 tons, coffee by 162 tons and beer by 4,700 tons.
These results demonstrate not only the increase in consumption and economic activity, but also the effectiveness of measures taken to improve customs services, strengthen controls, and increase transparency and business trust in the institution.
