There are fewer unemployed people in Albania... at least based on the official figures that institutions report.
Elsa Dhuli, the director of INSTAT, stated: "The official unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2024 for the population aged 15 and over is 8.8 percent, marking an annual decrease of 0.8 percent and a quarterly increase of 0.7 percent. The labor force participation rate in the fourth quarter of 2024 for the population aged 15-64 is 75.5 percent with an annual increase of 1.2 percent and a quarterly decrease of 0.4 percent."
Unemployment in Albania, according to INSTAT, is lower than in European countries such as Spain or Greece. This is based on new population data, now at 2.4 million Albanians.
"The data published for the fourth quarter of last year or even for earlier periods will be reviewed to ensure the most accurate and comprehensive analysis of the labor market," Dhuli declared.
To conclude that the unemployment rate in the country at the end of last year was 8.8 percent, the Statistical Institute surveyed 7,917 households in the country. The survey also revealed which sector made the biggest contribution to reducing unemployment last year: "All three sectors have had an impact: agriculture, industry and services. But the main focus has been on services."
More than the question of whether we have a decline in unemployment or population, what experts say is more alarming is “who will work”? Census data shows that from more than 1.9 million in 2011, the working-age population has shrunk to about 1.5 million. The contraction of the working-age population by over 18 percent in a decade leaves the economy and businesses in the country facing the biggest unknown, the lack of employees. (A2 Televizion)
