According to data, during the past year, 98 cases were recorded where travelers entering and leaving the country attempted to cross the border illegally. There were a total of 105 perpetrators, of whom 10 people were arrested and 95 others were prosecuted for illegal border crossing.
According to verifications, it has been evidenced that the highest number of people attempting to cross with false documents has been during the summer months, which also coincides with the highest number of tourists.
The people who used false documents were mainly people from third countries, who used Albania as a transit route to reach their destination, towards the European Union countries. The age group that was found with false documents ranged from 18 to 35 years old.
But how does the police detect that a citizen is in possession of a fake document? From the first moment of suspicion, the border officer extracts the data of the person in question from the system, as well as his travel history, and then the interview phase on the reasons for the trip takes place. From the entirety of this data obtained, the police officer creates doubts about the authenticity of the document, which he then sends to the laboratory.
Some of the people with false documents turned out to be unaware that they did not possess a valid document and that they had been deceived.
