Over 150 Albanian citizens have already started the procedures for receiving a pension under the agreement on mutual recognition of social security between Albania and Italy, which entered into force on July 1, 2025.
The Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation, Blendi Gonxhja, held a meeting today with the Director General of the National Social Security Institute in Italy, Valeria Vittimberga, where the progress of the implementation of the agreement was discussed.
The agreement paves the way for mutual recognition of insurance periods and enables the benefit of pensions according to the national legislation of each country, writes A2 CNN.
"So far, the first requests are mainly for the merging of insurance periods for pension purposes in Italy, as well as from individuals who do not meet the minimum of 15 years of insurance in Albania," the minister informed.
The Social Security Institute has set up all the necessary infrastructure to receive and process these requests, as well as to establish direct and efficient communication with the Italian side.
"The exchange of forms between the two institutions will be carried out electronically, significantly reducing the time of the procedure and significantly facilitating the service for citizens," Gonxha added, writes A2 CNN.
In order to ensure transparency and accurate guidance for citizens, all instructions and manuals explaining the steps to be followed for each category of applicant have now been published.
This agreement represents a significant step towards social protection and is a model of cooperation that aims to expand to other countries where Albanian citizens live and contribute. (A2 Televizion)
