The diaspora has been a main focus of political parties in this electoral campaign, because of the vote. Therefore, there has been no shortage of promises. The Socialists have put on the table the Mountain Package, while the Democrats have proposed tax exemption for the first 5 years for emigrant investments.
But beyond politics, the diaspora is considered important, especially in economic terms.
This is due to the high level of income that emigrants bring back to their families in the homeland, otherwise known as remittances. The diaspora has great financial potential to invest; it enjoys expertise and experience in various sectors as well as a large network of collaborators or otherwise, network.
But how much money have Albanian immigrants brought back to their homeland?
Due to the unstoppable emigration in recent years, the figures have been increasing. At the end of 2024, a record of over 1 billion euros was recorded, while the likelihood is that this foreign exchange flow will continue at these levels for a long time. This is due to those who are considered new emigrants, who left in the last 10 years and whose family ties are still very strong.
But what are the sectors of interest for Albanians in the diaspora to invest in?
Energy, information technology, tourism and financial services are considered such.
But despite the desire, many Albanians who work and live abroad are reluctant to invest in Albania, due to many barriers.
Unfair competition, corruption, frequent fiscal changes, and lack of orientation are considered obstacles. (A2 Televizion)
