The battle for drinking water, which still continues to be rare and intermittent for many Albanian families, can be called almost won in 2026. The government plans that from the current average of 16 hours a day, the supply time will increase to 19 hours in the next three years.
In coastal areas, which this year welcomed tourists like never before, the average time of water supply is expected to reach 21 hours, from 18 hours per day currently.
" Really, this is an ambitious goal. Can it be achieved? I think that if you work hard, you can achieve it. "

In order to hear as little as possible the question "When will the water come?", the Ministry of Finance and Economy has made available 4.5 billion lek or about 44 million euros for the next year alone.
" I think it is positive. We know that many water utilities have financial problems, so they definitely need support. "
To achieve this objective, the government expects that by 2026, network losses will decrease to 57 percent, from 63 percent currently, while coverage in urban and rural areas will increase to 95.5 percent and 67 percent, respectively.
" This somehow makes us more optimistic that the efforts are more serious. However, I repeat that the objective is very challenging. "
The government has drawn up a "plan B" to guarantee water supply within the objectives, leaving open the possibility of providing the service with a concession. (A2 Televizion)
