The salaries of those who work in the state, from 2026, will increase as much as the prices will become more expensive. For this purpose, the government has provided a fund of 4.3 billion ALL. This amount is 0.2 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.
" So inflation in 2025 must be seen, that inflation will be taken as a basis for the indexation of wages in the public sector in 2026. Of course, this is a minimum figure and in principle purchasing power remains the same. So an employee of the public administration, after the indexation, gets the same thing ", the expert on the economy, Eduart Gjokutaj, told A2 CNN.
Meanwhile, after the target for "900 euro average salary", the government seems to have given up on similar reforms. For the years 2025 and 2026, no funds for new salary policies have been provided out of the 11 billion lek this year.
" In the first place, salaries should be increased every year, that is, not to accumulate the increase and do it in a certain year when the economic situation comes or people leave. Changes should not be made when we are bad. The changes must be made in advance ", underlined Gjokutaj.
Despite all the great rhetoric about salary increases, an Albanian, regardless of whether he is a state or private employee, receives an average of 3.6 euros per hour. An hour of work in Albania is valued less than in any other country in the Western Balkans, with the exception of Kosovo.
" The salary is given according to what a job is paid in the market. If a job in the market is paid X, so should similar jobs. Whoever then has a higher performance will have to get something more ."
The crisis of the last three years, especially, turned the attention of businesses and the government like never before to employees. In order to somehow curb emigration, the government launched the salary reform in the public administration last year. (A2 Televizion)
