From the point of death to revival.... The Tirana-Rinas-Durre junction will undergo reconstruction as well as the railway line Rrogozhinë-Fier-Florë. The Albanian Railways has opened the tender worth 95 million to make the study for the rehabilitation of the infrastructural work as well as to draw up the project idea for the connection of the Vlora airport with the existing railway network.
"The construction of the new Vlora airport creates a great opportunity for the economic and touristic development of the region. For this reason, it is necessary to build a new railway line to connect the city of Vlora with this airport. This connection will guarantee efficient transport for passengers and increase the attractiveness of the region for investment and tourism."
The Rrogozhine-Fier-Vlora railway line is 84.3 km long. It starts from the exit of the Rrogozhina station on its southern side and ends at the end of the passenger station in the coastal city. The speed of movement in it is expected to be up to 120 kilometers per hour.
"The Albanian railway network is not electrified and the trains are driven by diesel locomotives. The whole system is usually single-track railway. Due to the lack of investments, the railway infrastructure is very poor, with the lack of appropriate standards of terminals, tracks and lines, with the exception of the Durrës-Tirana part of "Corridor VIII", which is currently in the rehabilitation phase, according to the standards European".
The tender will be open until January 27, 2025, after which the submitted offers will be evaluated. The aim is to build the line that will connect the airport of Vlora with the existing railway network in order to facilitate the access of travelers to the airport in a faster, safer and more sustainable way.
