From Riyadh to Tirana, over 200 billion dollars worth of agreements signed,

Unlike the symbolic summits of previous years, the Albanian side's expectations from the international economic summit are for tangible results. Out of the three discussion tables, two are on the economic reform agenda and youth policies. Albania wants to be an active part of the initiative for a "European Education Area", which would allow Albanian students to move more freely for studies and work within the EU.

From Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to Miami, United States of America, Hong Kong, Paris and Poznan, along with Tirana recently...in the eight years of the international economic summit "Future Investment Initiative Europe", agreements worth over 200 billion dollars have been signed in various sectors of the economy and in countries around the world. Albania is also expected to emerge victorious from the summit meeting that will gather among the most influential investors in the world, renowned business leaders and heads of state.

"The equation comes out positive, definitely. With hundreds of millions upon hundreds of millions of euros, the last and the most is the 152 million euros we are receiving for the expansion and completion of the Tirana Ring Road, which is considered a regional project," declared Fatos Çoçoli, an expert on the economy.

Unlike the symbolic summits of previous years, the expectations from the Albanian side from 16 and 17 May are for tangible results such as instruments, funds and real access to EU markets and policies. From the summit, Albania expects to benefit from more financial and technical support to expand participation in the programs that the union has especially for young people and to include not only students, but also young people in vocational training. But as in any other direction, where there is opportunity, there are also conditions. Albania still needs to do a lot of homework to benefit from European funds.

"They give you the carrot, but they tell you that you have to do your homework before you can enjoy this carrot. It is more than natural that these billion euros are given conditional. There are some reforms that must be implemented," said Çoçoli.

Albania seeks to be an active part of the initiative for a “European Education Area”, which would allow Albanian students to move more freely for studies and work within the EU. At the economic roundtable, Albania's expectations are for concrete support for the structural reforms that the country is undertaking within the framework of the EU Growth Plan for the Western Balkans.
