From toys to clothes and shoes, not even sparing the national flag... In Tirana's stores or markets, you can freely buy fake products.
Mainly coming from China, you find them displayed everywhere, waiting for buyers who are tempted by the cheap prices.
In order to limit the circulation of these products, with the aim of guaranteeing competition, the Ministry of Finance has drafted and submitted to Parliament the draft law "On Trademarks".
"New notions are being added to the law. Restrictive measures are being added to the trademark section. Given that the problem of counterfeit goods is quite developed, how can we limit it by making institutions interact, led by the Ministry of Intellectual Property, Albana Laknori, told A2 CNN.
The new draft law aims to facilitate the procedure that a business must follow to register its name, as well as bring innovations regarding international brands, given that we are now part of an open global market.
"The country, businesses, but also citizens will benefit. We just have to work on its implementation," Laknori added.
The new legal basis, among other things, is also a condition for Albania in its membership negotiations with the European Union.
"Out of 33 chapters, chapter 7 is dedicated to intellectual property. We will approximate the legislation of the European Union. So, this law is for the good."
According to World Trade Organization estimates, counterfeit goods account for about 25 percent of trade in the country. (A2 Televizion)
