In a reality where decent housing often remains a privilege, not a basic right, a new program is focusing where the need is most urgent. 1,253 families from vulnerable groups will benefit from complete reconstruction of their homes, through the Social Housing Investment Project.
"The call was opened in December 2024 and remained open until January. Families applied to the respective municipalities, after verifying the conditions and criteria they were approved by the municipal council. The beneficiaries have now been announced and we expect that in August, after the completion of the tender procedures, work on the renovation of the apartments will begin. 43 municipalities applied", states Dardana Grabovaj, Housing Projects Review Sector.
It is not just about physical interventions in depreciated structures, but about a clear effort to improve the quality of life and guarantee minimum living conditions for the most vulnerable.
"The most numerous requests go to improve housing conditions. We mainly affect housing in informal areas, in cities and villages where more special attention is needed and required to improve housing conditions. This is a program that makes things right for those housing units that do not have the proper conditions," says Dardana Grabovaj, Housing Projects Review Sector.
The fund available this year is estimated at 1 billion lek. How much money will families be able to benefit from to repair their homes?
"It depends on the number of members in the family. The amount of funding ranges from 12 to 16 million lekë, for example for the Roma and Egyptian communities," said Grabovaj.
By 2030, the goal is for over 50,000 families, including vulnerable groups, students and emigrants returning to their homeland, to be supported by a national housing package with a fund of 300 million euros. An intervention that not only solves immediate needs, but also lays the foundations for a sustainable, comprehensive and forward-thinking housing policy. (A2 Televizion)
