Rama warned against interfering in the oil sector, Hydrocarbons Association to

Prime Minister Edi Rama's warning about a possible intervention in the oil sector has brought reactions from major market players.

In a statement to A2CNN, the chairman of the Hydrocarbons Association, Luigj Aliaj, expressed concern that the industry has not been involved in any consultation process and there is no official information on the nature of the intervention that the government plans to undertake.

"Anything is possible, the government is the government. But, we have no knowledge of what exactly it is about. There has been no announcement or discussion with the industry," Aliaj told A2CNN, underlining the lack of transparency in this process.

He added that any intervention made without dialogue with interest groups risks creating uncertainty in the market, harming competition and discouraging investments in the hydrocarbon sector.

The Prime Minister's statement comes at a time when fuel prices in Albania remain among the highest in the region, despite the drop in oil prices on international stock exchanges. A situation that has sparked strong criticism in public opinion and demands for greater transparency in price formation.

The fuel sector was previously monitored by the Transparency Board, a structure set up to curb price increases in times of crisis, but which was suspended several months ago. Now, with this new signal from the government, it remains unclear whether a similar form of control will be restored or whether new fiscal and legal measures will be taken.

The Hydrocarbons Association demands public clarification and immediate involvement in any decision-making that affects the market, to avoid uncertainty and damage to the sector. (A2 Televizion)
