Albania, in ninth place in the world for the highest price of oil

Albania is the first country in the Region, sixth in Europe and ninth in the world for the highest price of oil. Data from the "Global Petrol Prices" platform, a liter of diesel in the country costs almost 2.1 dollars. Hong Kong is the country where oil costs the most, almost 3 dollars per liter, while Venezuela left me with 4 cents per liter.

At the beginning of the year, a liter of diesel in the country was sold on average for 204 ALL, to drop to 179 ALL per liter in May. Currently, fuel is sold at gas stations for about 198 ALL per liter.

 "We urge the prime minister to open the refineries to lower the price. They are the lowest prices in recent years," says another.

Each liter of diesel that is sold at gas stations is composed of the price at which the fuel is bought on the stock market and the taxes and fees that are applied by the government. Data from the Platts exchange show that the price of oil has fallen to 836 dollars per ton from 883 dollars last month.

Since the material is bought in dollars, the change in the exchange rate is an important factor in determining the price. According to the exchange rate of the Bank of Albania, at the beginning of the month one dollar is exchanged for almost 100 ALL, while currently it is 94.82 ALL. Why is the price of oil not reduced in the country?

 "Since the demand for products continues to grow, this consequently brings high prices from gas stations", said Mikela Qafa, an expert on economics.

These arguments are also confirmed by official data. Albania has imported more fuel this year than ever before. The data from the Ministry of Finance and Economy show that 512 thousand 352 tons of fuel were bought from abroad during the months of January-October. in relation to the same period of time a year ago, imports have expanded by almost 50 thousand tons or 10.8 percent.
