Albania is improving its image in the eyes of international institutions in terms of corruption. In the 2024 report of the international organization, "Transparency International", Albania was rated with 42 points, 5 more than in 2023. According to the Corruption Perceptions Index, Albania is thus positioned in 80th place among 180 countries in the world.
“This country, however, has been praised for the work of the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK) for, as it has been said, restoring people’s trust in justice, after filing charges against former ministers, members of parliament and other officials. SPAK continues to investigate the former president, former prime minister and other high-level public officials,” the TI report said.
But, despite all the steps forward, "Transparency International" has not spared criticism towards the "Rama Government".
“The Albanian government, for example, has signed unclear agreements for foreign investments worth billions of US dollars, risking the destruction of the Vjosa riverbed,” the TI report further stated.
Montenegro is the country with the lowest level of corruption in the Western Balkans with 46 points, followed by Kosovo with 44 points. With Albania standing in the middle of the ranking table, it is followed by North Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. (A2 Televizion)
