The big dilemma in tourism. Quantity or quality now has an answer. The latest data on the performance of the tourism sector for 2024 showed that we had more tourists but they were poorer.

According to estimates, the total number of tourists entering Albania was 11.7 million, with a 15.3% increase compared to 2023.

Tourists spent 4.5 billion euros last year. This means that a tourist spent an average of 384 euros. This indicator in 2023 was higher, at 416 euros.

But has tourism been successful this year?

"Foreign tourist spending in Albania in 2024 is estimated at 4.8 billion dollars, or 4.5 billion euros, income from those who come here. They leave it here. The increase is 54.7 percent, an extraordinary increase compared to the year before the pandemic. Domestic tourist spending, Albanians vacationing in Albania, 980 million dollars, 950 million euros. Employees, 278 thousand. In January 2024, 490 thousand visitors and tourists. In February 2024, 480 thousand, in March 2024, 564 thousand, in April 2024, in May 2024, 973 thousand, June 1.2 million, the intensive season begins. As you can see, we are dealing with an industry that brings in 4.5 billion euros in income, from those who come here, from abroad," said Prime Minister Edi Rama.

In total, 330 million euros more were added to the state budget from tourism in 2024. Experts say that in Albania we cannot yet talk about elite tourism, but about tourists who also come with bread.

"What we aim for is elite tourism. Although we continue to break records year after year in terms of numbers, the service structures themselves show that tourists have not spent much."

According to data from the Institute of Statistics, last year Albania was visited by more tourists from Kosovo, Italy, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Greece. (A2 Televizion)
