The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has sentenced Miranda Idrizi, a former employee of the Lushnje Penitentiary Institution, to 3 years in prison, accused of the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions".
Through an announcement, the GJKKO announces that by accepting the summary trial, the defendant Miranda Idrizi's sentence will be reduced by 1/3 and he will ultimately be sentenced to 2 years in prison.
The GJKKO has also decided to revoke her right to exercise public functions for a period of 5 years, writes A2 CNN.
According to the Criminal Procedure Code, the sentence must be served in a normal security prison, and begins on the day this decision becomes final.
Announcement of the GJKKO:
1. The Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime has submitted to the Court the request with the subject matter: "Sending to trial criminal case no. 47, of 2022, against the defendant Miranda Idrizi, accused of committing the criminal offense "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", provided for by article 259/2 of the Criminal Code.
2. The trial of this case was conducted under the rules of summary trial. At the end of the trial, the Special Court of First Instance for Corruption and Organized Crime, with a panel composed of judges Flora Hajredinaj, Etleva Deda and Rudina Palloj, with decision No. 9, dated 28.01.2025, decided:
1. The guilty plea of the defendant Miranda Idrizi, for the criminal offense of "Passive corruption of persons exercising public functions", provided for by Article 259, paragraph 2, of the Criminal Code, and her sentence to 3 (three) years of imprisonment.
Based on Article 406, point 1 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, the defendant Miranda Idrizi's sentence is reduced by 1/3, due to the application of summary judgment, and is ultimately sentenced to 2 (two) years in prison.
2. The sentence shall be served in a normal security prison, and shall begin on the day this decision becomes final.
3. Removal of the right of the defendant Miranda Idrizi to exercise public functions for a period of 5 (five) years, based on Article 35, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code.
4. 5. The procedural expenses incurred during the preliminary investigation phase in the amount of **** euros and **** lekë according to the minutes on procedural expenses of criminal proceedings no. 47/2022, dated 25.11.2024, as well as those incurred during the judicial trial, according to the minutes attached to this decision, are charged to the defendant Miranda Idrizi.
6. An appeal against this decision is allowed to the Special Court of Appeal for Corruption and Organized Crime, within 15 (fifteen) days from the day after the notification of the reasoned decision.
