"Checks only on citizens", experts:

Every day, more and more young people are moving around the country with weapons, becoming a potential danger. Also on Saturday in Laç, a fight between armed young people took the life of a 24-year-old man and injured 4 people, one of whom was a street vendor.

This area, as well as others around it, have been quite problematic in recent years, where citizens have been involved in quarrels that have subsequently ended in conflicts with the use of weapons. Experts say that criminal activity in these areas, such as Laçi, Lezha and Fushë-Kruja, is inherited.

"We have seen how criminal groups have had their activities in this area since the 1990s until today. They have in a way inherited criminal activity," says expert Faik Basha.

"Then either it is the lack of political will that has left these areas free, and they may need them and may be worth it. Or a lack of attention, a lack of responsibility of institutions," declares Fatjon Softa.

But should there be increased police checks in these areas? Experts say that some of the actions are uncovered, and in other cases ordinary citizens are checked, not those considered strong.

"Law enforcement institutions have done extremely little to manage the activity of criminal groups in that area."

"I think this is not a matter of local structures, but the problem in terms of security, in terms of the prosecution, in terms of the judiciary has been from the pyramid and has extended to its bottom," says Softa.

"We say that they should go out on the streets and should check vehicles, I say that it cannot be a coincidence to catch them, but also the fact that they are brave and move with weapons in vehicles shows once again that they have not had controls and have not had pressure from institutions and do not know fear. Or they have recognition that in a way translates into a freedom that is not controlled since they know who they are and only ordinary citizens are controlled more than they themselves as individuals. So, the strong part of strong families, of strong boys has created premises for them to move with expensive vehicles, but at the same time armed," he added.

The fight between the young men on Saturday was sudden, after the mirrors of the cars they were traveling in collided. 24-year-old Gerald Bitri died in hospital, while 4 others were injured. One of them remains in serious condition. (A2 Televizion)
