After receiving statements from Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj and his wife, as well as several physical checks in premises owned by them, the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, left unanswered the question of whether SPAK has sufficient evidence to register the names of specific persons under investigation.
During a meeting with journalists at SPAK's premises, Dumani was reserved about this issue, referring to the stage the investigation is at, A2 CNN reports.
"The matter is in the preliminary investigation phase and I cannot make any other data or information public. You have reported on checks conducted in relation to this matter and checks are a means of seeking evidence."
Dumani did not share any concrete details about the progress of the investigation into the "January 21" case, a registered investigation for the criminal offenses of "murder under qualifying circumstances", "abuse of office" and "committing actions that impede the discovery of the truth", but described it as a dynamic investigation, reports A2 CNN.
"Following the Supreme Court's decision in March 2024, the file acts were brought to SPAK on July 11. On July 15, the criminal proceedings were registered without specific names. Investigative actions are intensive and daily. The dynamics of the investigation are such that they require daily actions."
Regarding the time of questioning the accused persons, in this case Sali Berisha and Lulëzim Basha, Dumani said that it is determined according to the prosecutor's strategy in the case.
Asked about the suspension of the investigation into the "Xibraka" file, Dumani reiterated SPAK's official statement that the investigation had not uncovered evidence or facts linking citizen Olsi Rama to criminal activity, reports A2 CNN.
"We have given the official response. The file was suspended. It was reopened after information was filed by MP Gazment Bardhi. The possible involvement of citizen Olsi Rama was also investigated. After the investigations, the prosecutor decided to suspend the case since no persons involved in criminal activity were identified. The case was suspended and sent to the police for the identification of the perpetrators."
Regarding the possibility or not of a SPAK break during the electoral campaign, Altin Dumani emphasized that the structure he leads is not conditioned by the campaigns.
