The Minister of Justice, Uli Manja, today praised the justice reform, especially the role of SPAK.
During his speech at the roundtable "Assessment of the Institutional Architecture in Function of the Performance and Integrity of the Special Prosecution: Guarantees for Independence and Accountability Mechanisms", Minister Manja said that SPAK is one of the most tangible achievements of the justice reform.
He added that SPAK is a structure built on the foundations of integrity and professionalism, writes A2 CNN.
Manja also said that independence should not be a goal in itself, as according to him, it should be accompanied by accountability mechanisms.
"It is my responsibility to participate in this important discussion, which touches on one of the most fundamental issues of justice reform: the balance between independence and accountability in the criminal justice system, with a particular focus on the role of the Special Prosecution Office against Corruption and Organized Crime - SPAK.
The judicial reform, widely supported by Albanian citizens and our international partners, has had as its main objective the construction of an independent, impartial and effective justice system. SPAK is one of the most tangible achievements of this reform – a structure built on the foundations of integrity, professionalism and functional independence.
But, as the Report presented today rightly emphasizes, independence is not an end in itself. It must be accompanied by clear and effective accountability mechanisms, to guarantee that the power given to justice institutions does not turn into self-reference, but serves the public interest and the rule of law”, said Manja, among other things.
