For the past two days, Thethi has been in the news for the demolition of illegal buildings, as well as for the revolt of citizens against the decision of Prime Minister Edi Rama. On Wednesday, citizens claimed that police officers had taken bribes from them and allowed them to build in the area.
Following these accusations, the immediate reaction of the Director General of the State Police, Ilira Proda, was that the Shkodra police director, Fatmir Lleshaj, and the chief of the police station, Nik Nikolla, had been dismissed. Meanwhile, the chief of the Theth police station, Edison Gjoka, was suspended from duty and a disciplinary investigation was initiated for serious misconduct.
"I believe that this official, with his unjustifiable inaction, has chosen his own path to no longer be part of the State Police, I cannot find any reason for him to wear the blue uniform - despite the denunciation made by the Police to the Shkodra Prosecutor's Office, specifically the reference to unauthorized construction in a protected area, unfortunately in this case, strangely enough, the Prosecutor of the case was content with not initiating proceedings ," said the Director of the State Police, Ilir Proda.
Along with him, the inspector and the crime specialist of Theth were also suspended from duty and a disciplinary investigation was launched. Gentian Berberi has now been appointed head of the Shkodra police.
Police Chief Proda also warned the leaders of other districts that they will be held accountable if violations are found.
"But this is a clear message for all Local Police Directors in the regions who will be directly responsible if the closure or ignorance of the territory of their subordinates is not ascertained by them themselves before I ascertain it or before the entire community has ascertained it ," Proda emphasized.
As part of the plan of measures taken for the tourist season, Proda focused particularly on double parking.
"Double parking on the street will no longer be considered a purely administrative "minor violation", but as a blockage of the passage of vehicles that violates the safety of citizens and forcibly limits their right to move freely. Police structures will carry out investigative actions by treating double parking as a criminal offense based on Article 293 of the Criminal Code", continued Proda.
Clear and firm in his speech, Proda emphasized that the heads of police stations and the heads of structures responsible for the territory will be personally responsible for cases where unauthorized construction, property occupation, road blockages, conversion of community spaces into private parking lots, or any abuse of the environment, especially in protected areas, are identified.
