The Police Supervision Agency, Durrës-Kavajë Region, has arrested an inspector for abuse of office and passive corruption after he helped several other people extract oil from a ship seized in "Porto Romano".
As is known, with the finalization of the "TURNI" operation, Inspector Armand Marvataj, 21 years old, was arrested, while JK, 31 years old, and DM, 34 years old, were declared wanted, suspected of "Smuggling of goods subject to excise duty with full or partial suspension of customs duties", "Theft committed in collaboration", and "Active corruption of persons exercising public functions".
It is suspected that the three persons mentioned above, in collaboration with each other, at around 15:00, they removed a significant amount of oil from the Tanzanian-flagged ship "AYAZANOYBYA", which was anchored and seized in Porto Romano and has been seized as material evidence by the Durrës Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred on January 27.
Investigations conducted by AMP and the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section at the Durrës Police Department have revealed that police officer AM, in exchange for a payment of 10,000 euros, given by 31-year-old JK, allowed the extraction of the amount of oil found on the ship, in collaboration with crew members.
Also, all procedural actions were carried out in cooperation, including re-examination of the ship, examination of film footage in Porto Romano Durrës, taking statements and taking samples for expertise in all ballast areas, and it resulted that the amount of oil that was in these areas at the time of seizure (date 12.01.2025) had been replaced with water.
Meanwhile, seven other suspects have been prosecuted at large for "Smuggling of goods subject to excise duty with full or partial suspension of customs duties", "Theft committed in collaboration".
