Police in Gjirokastra have arrested a 47-year-old man, part of a criminal group involved in drug trafficking in 2018.
It is known that Orges Islami, a resident of Gjirokastra, was located near the area called "Dry Lake" in the capital.
He was declared wanted after the Pogradec Judicial District Court, with the decision dated 29.07.2020, sentenced him to 6 years and 8 months of imprisonment, of which he has 2 years, 8 months and 4 days of imprisonment left to serve, for the criminal offense of "Drug Trafficking", committed in collaboration, provided for by Article 283/a/2 of the Criminal Code.
Islami was part of a criminal group in 2018 involved in drug trafficking to EU countries.
In the crackdown on this criminal group in 2017-2018, 12 national and international police operations were conducted, specifically in Albania, Greece, Turkey, Macedonia, and Italy, where a total of 66 citizens, including foreigners and Albanians, were arrested and 8.4 tons of the narcotic Cannabis Sativa, combat ammunition, vehicles, telephones, and significant amounts of money were seized.
