At least two people have been injured after several gunshots were fired near a courthouse in western Germany, where the trial for the murder of former Albanian boxer Besar Nimani is taking place.
According to foreign media, Police in Bielefeld said a "large-scale operation" is being undertaken after the shooting at around 1:40 p.m. local time in the city center.
Officers said they could not rule out that the incident was related to the murder of the former Albanian boxer, writes A2 CNN.
A suspect is currently on trial for the murder of Besar Niman, a former lightweight boxing champion.
There is no information on the condition of the injured and police say it is unclear how many possible suspects there are in the incident. A man was also seen walking away in handcuffs.
Nimani, who died at the age of 38, was shot dead on the street in Bielefeld last March.
The Albanian boxer from Kosovo once held the IBF European super lightweight title, as well as two German belts.
German police launched a manhunt for two suspects in his murder, and a 38-year-old man was arrested in Brussels in July. His murder trial began in January. Officers are still searching for a second suspect.
According to court documents, two men ambushed Besar Nimani on March 9 and fired 16 shots in front of a store in the city.
The victim bled to death at the crime scene in front of a shop in the pedestrian zone, writes A2 CNN.
Berat Nimani, Besar's brother, has been participating in the murder trial at the Bielefeld Regional Court in recent weeks. (A2 Televizion)
