The US Embassy in Tirana has donated equipment for the penitentiary system in Albania. The Director General of Prisons Klevis Qose received the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Tirana, Ms. Kathryn Hammond, along with the delegation from Washington.
At the ceremony of donating equipment to increase security in prisons, Qose assured that the General Directorate of Prisons remains committed to building a fairer, stronger and more professional penitentiary system in accordance with international standards.
According to him, through the recommendations given by the monitoring authority, the accountability of institutions has been promoted, responsibility for carrying out functional duties has increased, creating premises for the reintegration of prisoners.
"The prison directorate has taken concrete strategic and operational steps, taking into account international standards and best practices. Implementing a fair management policy, taking responsibility for the execution of criminal decisions while maintaining the balance between security and humane treatment of citizens in conflict with the law, are essential elements on which we have consolidated our approach. Through the recommendations, the accountability of institutions has been promoted, and the responsibility for carrying out functional tasks for the rehabilitation and integration of prisoners has increased," said Qose, according to A2 CNN.
He said that the General Directorate of Prisons values the relationship with such strategic partners as the US government.
"At the core of this cooperation are two strategic programs of the US government, which have made a significant contribution to the reform and professionalization of the penitentiary system," stated Qose.
For her part, Kathryn Hammond emphasized that "an environment must be created for the reintegration of prisoners once they leave the prison system." (A2 Televizion)
