SPAK extends the investigation into Ilir Meta by 3 months

The Special Prosecution Office extends the investigation into the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, by 3 months. While his lawyer, in a statement to the media, said that he will appeal this decision, as according to him it is contrary to the law, writes A2 CNN.

The former President of the Republic and his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, are no longer just persons under investigation by SPAK, but officially under indictment for several offenses, such as "passive corruption", committed in collaboration, "money laundering", but also "concealment and failure to declare assets".

Meta was arrested on October 21, 2024 at the entrance to Tirana, while returning from a visit to Kosovo; he was then escorted to the Police headquarters and placed in the security block. The video of the moment of the arrest went viral because the former president was forcibly pulled out of the car, because he had refused to get out voluntarily.

On May 27, 2025, SPAK formalized the charges against him for corruption, money laundering, and concealment of assets, including the "CEZ-DIA" file and lobbying in the US for the LSI. (A2 Televizion)
