Numerous fires have been activated near the Kapshtica border crossing point, burning large areas of low vegetation and pastures.
The fire initially broke out near the village of Vërnik, endangering the homes of this village, and only the intervention of the fire service forces made it possible to isolate the flames, writes A2 CNN.
Later, favored by high temperatures, the fire spread to an area of several hectares, risking spreading even further, as the rugged mountainous terrain makes it almost impossible for firefighting vehicles to intervene.
According to Devoll Sub-Prefect Henrik Rusi, more than 50 fire service forces from the municipalities of Korça, Devoll and Maliq are working on the ground, while other forces from the forestry service and civil emergencies are expected.
The Deputy Prefect of Devoll has indicated that the possibility of intervention from the air is not ruled out, as he said that he has also had contact with the Greek authorities, as the fire risks spreading to the other side of the border.
This is the second hotspot to appear in the last few hours in the southeast of the country, as another active hotspot is above the village of Dishnicë. (A2 Televizion)
